The museum and heritage sector has been paying tribute to Sir Neil Cossons who sadly passed away on March 29th. In 2002 when Sir Neil was Chair of English Heritage he officially launched the locomotive, Steam Elephant, at Beamish Museum.
The first Director of Ironbridge Gorge Trust, where The Association of European Open Air Museums (AEOM) held conference sessions and meetings. Sir Neil’s influence across the sector, independent and open air museums was significant, leaving a lasting legacy for us, particularly in delivering exhibitions and programmes through curatorial and interpretive team collaborations, which continues to be at the forefront of our ways of working.
