The Association brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds working in open-air museums in Europe. Whether focused on research, interpretation, education, conservation, management, or community engagement, members and fellows share a dedication to the values and aims of AEOM. The network thrives on mutual support, exchange of knowledge and experience, and a shared interest in the development of open-air museums as meaningful cultural institutions. All applications are reviewed by the AEOM Board and decided upon by the General Meeting.
The AEOM offers two forms of affiliation:
- Membership is available to open-air museums across Europe. Each museum decides how it wishes to be represented within AEOM – whether as a whole institution or through a specific branch. It is also up to the museum to designate which staff members will participate in AEOM events and represent the institution in the network.
- Fellowship is a personal and lifelong recognition awarded to individuals working in open-air museums who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and expertise. Fellows are nominated by peers and are expected to actively contribute to the AEOM community.
For full details, see the Statutes of AEOM.
Applications for membership or fellowship should be submitted in advance of the General Meeting to the current President of AEOM at President@theaeom.org.
